Ticketer is pleased to announce that long-standing customer Highland Council Buses will upgrade half of its ticket machine estate to the Ticketer TK300 driver console, following a successful trial in July.

The operator confirmed its decision to proceed after just one week of the trial, having been impressed by the powerful capabilities of the TK300. The new machines will be rolled out from the end of August.

Successful Trial Leads to Wider TK300 Upgrade

The TK300 is Ticketer’s next-generation driver console, combining ticketing, automatic vehicle location (AVL) data and real-time operational feeds within one connected ecosystem. Its fast, intuitive interface elevates both the driver and passenger experience while giving customers greater visibility across their services.

Ticketer has worked with The Highland Council since 2017 and has supported its in-house Highland Council Buses operation since its launch in January 2023. In July, Highland Council Buses trialled the TK300 in live operation, with the positive experience leading the customer to confirm the upgrade after just one week.

The move will introduce TK300 machines across half of its existing ticket machine estate, providing a modern, connected foundation for ticketing and fleet management.

Renewed Focus on Punctuality and Service Visibility

Following a Ticketer Portal Health Check led by their Ticketer Customer Success Director, Highland Council Buses have also chosen to further expand their use of Ticketer Schedule Adherence as part of the ticketing upgrade.

Schedule Adherence leverages Ticketer’s powerful AVL capabilities to provide a clear view of how services are performing against schedule, helping customers monitor punctuality, identify recurring trends and understand where action may be needed. Fully integrated into 3rd party passenger apps and bus stop displays, it also improves the passenger experience by providing clearer, more accurate real-time passenger information.

Councillor Ken Gowans, The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee,
“These are replacing hand-held devices in our 12 service buses and will make boarding speedier and more efficient for all our passengers. With improved built-in connectivity, these sturdy, reliable machines will also greatly assist our drivers.

“Since the £2 single fare bus cap came into operation, we have evidenced passenger numbers greatly increase and we are always looking at ways to improve our customer experience.

“The upgrade forms yet another part of The Highland Council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality and reliability of its in-house bus services, which launched in January 2023.”

Adam Toone, Chief Operating Officer at Ticketer, adds:

Highland Council Buses’ decision to proceed just one week into the trial reflects the powerful capabilities of the Ticketer TK300. We are delighted to be building on our relationship as the team upgrades half of its ticket machine estate.

“By also making full use of Schedule Adherence, Highland Council Buses will gain clearer visibility of service performance to support informed operational decisions. We look forward to supporting the team through the upgrade and beyond.”
